IELTS discussion essay model answer about university studies.

This model answer is based on the topic of university education and whether students should learn about other subjects. It’s a discussion essay so I need to cover both sides and give my clear opinion.

The task was taken from the Cambridge IELTS 18 book. As I have stated before in earlier posts, use authentic IELTS material when you are practicing. You can get these from the Cambridge IELTS books, the most recent being IELTS 18.

IELTS discussion essay about work and migration.

This is a model answer I wrote based on the topic of work and migration from the recent Cambridge IELTS 17 practice book. Always use authentic writing tasks from Cambridge, IDP, and the British Council when practicing for IELTS.

Below is an IELTS question for writing task 2 and my model answer. It is on the topic of Education. After analysing the question, I can see that it’s about whether homework is a good idea or not in helping kids in their educational development. It asks me to discuss both views and also asks for my opinion.

In this case, you must state your opinion in the introduction, the body and conclusion.

Not only are there 5 types of essay questions in academic IELTS but there are 3 types of Advantage Disadvantage essays, here are some examples below and ideas on how to approach them.

Before we go further let me make something clear. IELTS tasks will ask in an advantage disadvantage essay something like:

Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
What are the advantages and disadvantages of this?

Notice the plural form here, advantages and disadvantages. Many students (and IELTS teachers) think they have to write more than one advantage and disadvantage. Yes, you can certainly do this but you can also make it much simpler by writing about one advantage and one disadvantage. I have heard from examiners that this is ok as long as you are able to support and fully exaplin your ideas. With this approach you can still write over 250 words.
