Tables in IELTS writing task 1 can be tricky because you are presented with a lot of data, but you need to be concise and selective here. Sometimes tables show dynamic data (data that changes over a time period) in this post, the table is static data (one time period)

Start by paraphrasing the task, then make sure to write a concise overview that summarises the data. The overview should only be 2 or 3 sentences, and it starts with the word ‘overall‘.

Do you have to paraphrase the task question when writing an IELTS essay?

This is a question I was recently asked. The answer is ….well no you don’t have to paraphrase but I would advise it if you want a higher score (Band 7 or 8).

If you are really concerned about your paraphrasing abilities and you just can’t get it right, or if you are aiming for a Band 6 or 6.5, then just write a short 2 or 3 sentence introduction with a thesis statement only.
